🚨 TAX ALERT – NEVADA SALES & USE TAX DEADLINE CHANGE

The Nevada Department of Taxation has announced an important change to the Sales and Use Tax and Consumer Use Tax remittance schedule following the passage of Assembly Bill 594 (AB 594).

What’s Changing?

Beginning with the January 2026 filing period, businesses will be required to file and pay Sales and Use taxes by the 20th day of the month following the end of the taxable period.

This represents a significant shift from the prior deadline, where many businesses were allowed to file and pay by the last day of the month.

Why It Matters

The new law effectively shortens the filing window by approximately 10 days, increasing the risk of late filings, penalties, and interest for businesses that do not adjust their processes in advance.

Key Details at a Glance

  • New Due Date:
Sales and Use Tax returns and payments are due by the 20th of the month following the reporting period.
If the 20th falls on a weekend or recognized holiday, the due date moves to the next business day.
  • Effective Date:
February 20, 2026 (for the January 2026 reporting period)
  • Who Is Affected:
All Nevada businesses required to file Sales and Use Tax or Consumer Use Tax returns

Action Steps for Businesses

Businesses should:

  • Review and update internal accounting and closing timelines
  • Adjust tax calendars and reminder systems
  • Coordinate earlier with bookkeeping and tax professionals
  • Ensure accounting software and automation tools reflect the new deadline

Proactive planning now can help avoid unnecessary penalties once the new deadline takes effect.
